프림 일가가 소유한 프림 밸리 카지노 리조트, 버펄로 빌스 리조트 앤 카지노, 위스키 피트 호텔 앤 카지노와 주변 주유소, 편의점은 테리블스(Terrible’s)와 운영권 계약을 체결했다. 이에 따라 예정됐던 폐쇄를 피하고 다시 소생하는 기회를 마련했다. 팀 허스트 테리블스 사장은 “프림의 역사와 전통을 지키는 동시에 투자와 관광 활성화를 통해 새로운 성장의 기회로 만들겠다. 프림의 최고의 시절은 아직 오지 않았다”고 밝혔다. 

*카지노 도시에서 복합개발 도시로

프림의 새로운 미래 전략은 명확하다. 과거처럼 카지노 하나에 의존하는 도시가 아니라, 관광·쇼핑·레저·물류가 결합된 복합개발(Mixed-use Development) 도시로 변화하는 것이다. 새로운 프림이 구상하는 미래 모습은 다음과 같다.

기존 호텔과 카지노 시설을 현대화하고 새로운 관광 수요에 맞는 공간으로 변화하는 리조트의 재생이다. 가족형 엔터테인먼트 확대로서 카지노 중심에서 벗어나 가족 단위 방문객이 즐길 수 있는 시설 개발이 이루어진다. 그리고  쇼핑·상업시설 재정비 계획으로 기존 아울렛과 상업 공간을 새로운 소비 트렌드에 맞게 재구성하는 것이다. 

물류와 교통 중심지로서의 가능성도 간과할 수 없는데, 캘리포니아와 네바다를 연결하는 위치적 장점을 활용한 산업 기반 확대도 예상된다. 친환경 인프라 구축도 개발 요소이다. 전기차 충전시설과 미래형 교통 인프라 확충이 이뤄질 전망이다.

*남부 네바다 보조 공항, 새로운 성장 기회

프림의 미래를 이야기할 때 빼놓을 수 없는 또 하나의 요소는 남부 네바다 보조 공항(Southern Nevada Supplemental Airport)이다. 라스베이거스 해리 리드 국제공항의 장기적인 수요 증가에 대비하기 위해 추진되는 이 프로젝트는 남부 네바다 지역의 새로운 경제 축이 될 가능성을 가지고 있다.

공항 개발이 현실화될 경우 프림은 단순한 고속도로 휴게 지역을 넘어 관광객, 기업, 물류가 연결되는 새로운 거점으로 성장할 가능성이 있다. 호텔과 상업시설, 물류산업, 관광 인프라가 함께 발전하는 새로운 경제권 형성이 기대되는 이유다.

Primm: The Gateway to Las Vegas Prepares for a New Future

Located about 40 miles south of Las Vegas on the Nevada–California border, Primm has long been known as the "Gateway to Las Vegas." For decades, travelers from California stopped here to dine, shop, and experience its casino resorts before continuing to the Strip. More than just a rest stop, Primm became a destination in its own right.

From Casino Boom to Reinvention

Primm flourished during Nevada's casino expansion in the 1980s and 1990s with the opening of Whiskey Pete's, Buffalo Bill's, and Primm Valley Resort. Attractions such as the famous Desperado roller coaster, outlet shopping, and thousands of hotel rooms made it a popular destination for both families and casino visitors.

Over time, however, changing travel habits and increased competition from California's growing casino industry reduced Primm's appeal. Many visitors now drive directly to Las Vegas, while the rise of electric vehicles and changing tourism patterns have further reduced stopovers. Although Las Vegas tourism rebounded after the pandemic, Primm has struggled to regain its former vitality, leading to the closure or downsizing of several casino operations.

Recently, the Primm family signed an operating agreement with Terrible's for Primm Valley Casino Resort, Buffalo Bill's Resort & Casino, Whiskey Pete's Hotel & Casino, and nearby businesses. The agreement prevented planned closures and opened the door for new investment. Terrible's President Tim Hurst said, "We are committed to preserving Primm's history while creating new opportunities through investment and tourism. Primm's best days are still ahead."

A Mixed-Use Destination

Primm's new vision extends far beyond gaming. Instead of relying primarily on casinos, the town aims to become a modern mixed-use destination combining tourism, retail, entertainment, logistics, and transportation.

Key priorities include:

• Renovating existing hotels and casino resorts.

• Expanding family-friendly entertainment.

• Modernizing retail and outlet shopping.

• Developing logistics and transportation businesses that benefit from Primm's strategic location.

Southern Nevada Supplemental Airport

Another major opportunity is the proposed Southern Nevada Supplemental Airport, planned to support the long-term growth of Harry Reid International Airport. If developed, the airport could transform Primm into a major regional hub for tourism, logistics, and business, creating new demand for hotels, retail, commercial development, and transportation services.

As Primm looks ahead, it is working to redefine itself—not simply as a casino town, but as a diversified destination and an emerging economic gateway for Southern Nevada.
