‘따뜻한 미소’와 함께 찾아온 폴 박 원장… ‘평생 주치의란 마음으로’

A Warm Smile, A Lifelong Commitment: Dr. Paul Park’s Vision of Patient Care

깨끗해요!”... 그를 처음 본 순간 이 광고 카피가 떠올랐다. 해맑은 미소를 지닌 치과 의사 ‘폴 박(Paul Park)’. 올 1월 서머린과 사우스웨스트 인근에 ‘엘리트 케어 치과’가 새로 문을 열었다. 병원 내부도 온통 하얀 대리석으로 통일돼 그 깨끗한 느낌이 충만하다. 오너의 취향과 이미지를 제대로 구현한 병원 인테리어가 신뢰의 느낌을 갖게 한다. 닥터 박의 또다른 장점은 대화를 할 때 아무 격의없이 매우 친근하다. 커피 한 잔과 케이크 한 조각이 앞에 있다면 시간 가는 줄 모르고 대화의 꽃을 피울 것 같다. 

이미 다녀간 많은 환자들이 닥터 박의 친근함을 최고로 꼽는다. “저는 진료를 하기 전에 환자들과 충분한 대화로 최선의 방법을 찾아내고자 합니다. 환자 중심의 종합적인 진단과 체계적인 치료 계획을 수립하기 위해 환자들의 습관 하나도 세밀하게 체크하죠.” 

그의 이력도 매우 독특하다. 그는 미국에서 태어나 어린 시절 한국으로 건너가 성장했다. 대학 졸업 후 그는 IT 컨설팅, 해외영업, 인사 등 다양한 분야에서 직장 생활을 했다. 그는 “여러 업무를 취급하면서도 저는 평생 몸담을 진정한 직업에 대한 고민을 끊임없이 했어요. 언젠가는 제 이름을 걸고 비즈니스를 하고 싶은 꿈을 버리지 않았는데, 무엇보다도 전문적인 기술을 가지고 사람들에게 실질적인 도움이 되는 분야를 선택하고 싶었습니다.”라고 회상했다. 

그런 고민 끝에 그는 부산대학교 치의학전문대학원에 진학하게 되었고, 비로소 그의 천직을 발견하게 되었다. 그는 대학병원에서 치과의사로서 활발하게 진료하며 다양한 경험을 쌓았다. “한국에서의 진료 경험은 저에게는 큰 자산입니다. 한국의 치관 시장은 경쟁이 치열하고 환자들의 기대 수치가 매우 높기 때문에 짧은 시간 안에 정확하고 수준 높은 치료를 제공해야만 합니다. 이런 환경 속에서 저는 임플란트, 보철, 신경치료, 발치 등 다양한 임상 경험을 쌓을 수 있었습니다.”     그러면서도 빠른 속도로 진료를 해야만 하는 환경이 그에게는 진료 철학을 실현하는 데에는 한계를 느끼게 했다. 그래서 그는 더넓은 무대로 나가고 싶어 미국으로 다시 돌아와 UCLA 치과대학에서 공부했다. 이후 라스베이거스로 이주하여 여러 병원에서 근무하면서 이 지역사회에 수준 높은 치과 진료에 대한 수요가 크다는 것을 느꼈다. 

그는 세심한 임상 경험을 바탕으로 올 1월 엘리트 케어 치과(Elite Care Dental)를 개원했다. 그는 “저는 환자 중심의 종합적인 진단과 체계적인 치료 계획을 세워서 맞춤형 진료 서비스를 제공하고자 합니다. 환자가 여러 곳을 돌아다니며 상태를 악화시키지 않도록 평생 주치의로서 활동하고 싶습니다.”라고 포부를 밝히며, “제가 가장 중요하게 생각하는 가치는 친절함, 투명함, 그리고 신뢰입니다. 과잉 진료를 지양하고 가능한 치아를 보존할 수 있는 보수적인 방향으로 치료를 하고자 합니다.”라고 앞으로의 비전을 설명했다. 라스베이거스 한인 커뮤니티에 좋은 의료진이 입성하는 것은 그 무엇보다도 매우 바람직한 소식이다.  

얼마 전 어느 작은 이벤트에서 박 원장의 인품을 느낄 수 있는 모습을 보았다. 그는 이벤트가 끝날 무렵까지 남아서 스텝들과 함께 뒷정리를 도왔다. 의사로서의 권위보다는 친근한 이웃으로서 여러 사람들에게 진솔한 감동을 남겼다. 그래서 앞으로의 그의 활약이 더 기대된다.

“It's So Clean!” That old advertising slogan immediately came to mind the first time I met him.

Dr. Paul Park, a dentist with a bright and welcoming smile, recently opened Elite Care Dental near Summerlin and Southwest Las Vegas this past January. The clinic itself reflects the same sense of cleanliness and professionalism that he projects. From floor to ceiling, the office is adorned with elegant white marble, creating an atmosphere that is both modern and reassuring. The interior design perfectly embodies the owner’s personality and values, inspiring confidence from the moment patients walk through the door.

Another of Dr. Park’s greatest strengths is his approachable nature. Speaking with him feels effortless, as if you could spend hours chatting over a cup of coffee and a slice of cake. Many of his patients agree, often citing his friendliness as one of the reasons they enjoy visiting his practice.

“Before beginning any treatment, I take the time to have meaningful conversations with my patients,” Dr. Park explained. “I want to understand their concerns and work together to find the best possible solution. To create a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan, I pay close attention to even the smallest details of their habits and lifestyle.”

His personal journey is just as unique as his approach to dentistry.

Born in the United States, Dr. Park moved to South Korea as a child and spent much of his youth there. After graduating from college, he worked in a variety of fields, including IT consulting, international sales, and human resources. Despite building a successful professional career, he continually searched for a vocation he could dedicate himself to for life.

“While working in different industries, I was always thinking about what my true calling might be,” he recalled. “I dreamed of one day building a business under my own name, but more importantly, I wanted to develop professional skills that would allow me to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.”

That search eventually led him to the Pusan National University School of Dentistry, where he discovered his true passion. Following graduation, he gained extensive clinical experience at a university hospital, treating a wide range of dental conditions.

“My experience practicing in Korea has been one of my greatest assets,” he said. “The Korean dental market is highly competitive, and patients have very high expectations. Dentists must provide accurate, high-quality treatment within a limited amount of time. In that environment, I was able to gain extensive experience in implants, prosthodontics, root canal therapy, extractions, and many other procedures.”

At the same time, the fast-paced clinical environment made it difficult for him to fully realize his patient-centered philosophy. Seeking broader opportunities, he returned to the United States and continued his education at the UCLA School of Dentistry. He later moved to Las Vegas, where he worked at several dental practices and recognized a growing demand for high-quality, comprehensive dental care within the local community.

Drawing upon years of clinical experience and a clear vision for patient care, Dr. Park opened Elite Care Dental in January 2026.

“My goal is to provide personalized care through comprehensive diagnosis and well-structured treatment planning,” he said. “I want to serve as a lifelong family dentist, helping patients avoid unnecessary delays and complications that can occur when they move from one office to another.”

He emphasized that the core values of his practice are kindness, transparency, and trust.

“I strive to avoid overtreatment and take a conservative approach whenever possible to preserve natural teeth,” he added. “Building trust with patients is more important than anything else.”

The arrival of a highly skilled and compassionate dentist is welcome news for the Las Vegas Korean community.

Recently, I witnessed a small moment that revealed Dr. Park’s character. At the end of a community event, long after most attendees had left, he stayed behind to help staff members clean up and organize. Rather than relying on the authority often associated with physicians, he chose to serve as a friendly neighbor and community member.

It was a simple gesture, but one that left a lasting impression. For that reason, many in the community look forward to seeing what Dr. Paul Park will accomplish in the years ahead.
